Launching your own reborn doll brand is a great way to stand out from sellers who all list the same generic dolls. With the right OEM partner, you can create dolls, outfits and packaging that are unique to your brand. Here is how the process works from idea to delivery.
Step 1: Define Your Product and Customer
Start with who you are selling to. Collectors, parents buying gifts and online shoppers want different things. Decide on:
- Size (for example 18-inch newborn or 22-inch toddler)
- Material: full silicone, full vinyl or cloth body
- Look: sleeping or awake, skin tone, hair style and color
- Target retail price, which sets your cost target
Step 2: Choose a Sculpt
The fastest route is to choose from the factory’s existing sculpt library and customize painting, hair, eyes and outfits. If you want something nobody else has, an exclusive sculpt can be developed for your brand. This takes longer and requires mould costs, but gives you a product competitors cannot copy easily.
Step 3: Design Outfits, Accessories and Packaging
Branding is where private label really pays off. Plan outfits, pacifiers, bottles or plush toys, plus a branded gift box, hang tag and adoption or birth certificate. Send your logo files and artwork early so packaging samples can be made together with the doll.
Step 4: Approve the Sample
The factory makes a pre-production sample. Check the face, paint, hair, weight, outfit fit and packaging carefully, and give clear written feedback. It is normal to go through one or two rounds of changes. The approved sample becomes the standard for mass production.
Step 5: Safety Testing and Compliance
Before you sell, make sure the product is tested for your market: CPC and ASTM F963 for the United States, CE and EN71 for Europe and the UK. Your manufacturer can arrange testing with a third-party lab and help with labels and warnings.
Step 6: Mass Production and Inspection
During production, ask for progress photos. Before shipping, every doll should be inspected for paint defects, hair, seams and packaging. You can also book your own third-party inspection.
Step 7: Shipping and Restocking
Choose sea freight for large orders and air or express for samples and urgent restocks. Once your first batch sells, track which styles perform best and plan your reorders and new designs around them.
